Sex Therapy is a specialized form of counseling that focuses on the emotional aspects of the sexual experience with a focus on reducing stress and anxiety. Clients are taught to identify, and communicate, their emotions and body experiences that come up while thinking about sex, talking about sex, and of course, experiencing sex. The foundation of sex therapy is education about the bio-psycho-social aspects of sexuality with a focus on the mind-body. The client has the opportunity to identify and modify (if desired) their deeply held beliefs about sexuality, femininity, masculinity and what sex “means”.
Sex therapy does not involve any physical contact or sexual activity between clients and therapists.
For many people, talking about sex can be very uncomfortable and anxiety-provoking. Usually this is related to a history of silence and/or shame around sex and/or sexual pleasure.
Dr. Modjoros is an open, caring listener who maintains a completely judgement-free space. Her professionalism and respectful approach leave clients feeling truly heard, seen, understood, and accepted. She is an expert at putting clients at ease.Dr. Modjoros sees her clients every 2-3 weeks, and will usually recommend “homework” to complete between sessions. These activities, exercises, and/or reading assignments are the practical steps that create the client’s growth and change. Dr. Modjoros designs her recommendations for each client’s unique circumstances, providing truly individualized therapy. Whether the specific exercises are touch/sensation based, or focused writing, or educational reading, or communication practice, the process is always dynamic and collaborative.
Hypnosis has been described as “bypassing of the conscious mind” but that does not fully describe what it is and how it helps you. Hypnosis is a mind-body state where the mind can be free from internal and external distractions -- it’s a relaxation of mind and body such that your mind can focus on the right now. This is a “trance”, which can feel very similar to when you get fully immersed in a movie, or book, or song, or video game (or social media!) and you don’t notice nearby sounds or time passing. Hypnosis is not “sleep” and it is not possible to get “stuck” in hypnosis. It is a state of intense focus associated with mental openness.
There are many different styles of hypnosis -- Dr. Modjoros only practices hypnotherapy, which is hypnosis that she specifically designs to help her client meet their stated goals. As a Certified Hypnotherapist and a Certified Sexual Freedom Hypnosis practitioner, she will guide you into a nice relaxed feeling before giving your subconscious mind the tools it needs to make the changes that you decide are valuable. While in trance, you will be able to focus so clearly on the pathway to meet your goals that you will know exactly what steps you need to take to get the result you want. The process is interactive to ensure you are engaged and experiencing exactly what you want to be. After hypnosis, you will remember as much as you would from a regular conversation, yet the hypnotic experiences will continue to have profound effects on your emotional experiences in regular life.
Within the hypnotherapy session, Dr Modjoros utilizes visualizations, cognitive behavior therapy, sensate focus, and breathwork, as well as other mind-body techniques, to guide you to your desired outcome. Common hypnotherapy goals include letting go of old beliefs and experiences, increasing autonomy and authenticity, connecting to your body to feel pleasure, improving mindfulness skills, body image improvement, reduced fear and anxiety around sex and/or pleasure. The results of the hypnosis are directly related to how ready you are to make those changes when you begin. For this reason, Dr. Modjoros offers hypnotherapy sessions only after her thorough intake and sex therapy evaluation to ensure she is offering you the experience you most need and want. She will show you the path, and then your success is in your control!
